Washington, D.C. – On May 31, Congressman Lamborn announced that the Secretary of the U.S. Air Force has chosen Colorado Springs, Colorado, as the permanent location of four U.S. Space Force (USSF) entities and more than 500 Guardians. The Department of the Air Force has determined that Space Delta 12, Space Delta 15, the 74th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Squadron (ISR), and 75th ISR Squadron will be permanently based at Peterson Space Force Base and Schriever Air Force Base, both located in Colorado Springs.

“Colorado Springs continues to prove itself as the premier location for our nation’s space defense operations. I am pleased to announce that more than 500 personnel from Space Delta 12, Space Delta 15, and the 74th and 75th ISR squadrons will permanently join the 20 current space missions at our five military installations in Colorado Springs," said Congressman Lamborn. "I applaud the Department of Defense for selecting Peterson Space Force Base and Schriever Space Force Base to house so many of our nation’s most valuable U.S. Space Force personnel and operations.”

As of May 31, 2023, Colorado Springs is currently home to the Space Operations Command, National Space Defense Center, Space Delta (DEL) 2, DEL 3, DEL 6, DEL 7, DEL 8, DEL 9, DEL 10, DEL 11, DEL 12, DEL 15, Space Base Delta 1. It is the provisional location of Space Training and Readiness Command, and the current home to the SSC Transition Division, Space Systems Command Product Support/Defensive Cyber Operations/Rapid Reaction Branch, 1st Space Brigade, 310th Space Wing, and 138th Space Control Squadron. Given the critical national security missions conducted at the five military installations in Colorado Springs, hardened communications and proper infrastructure are already built into the Pikes Peak Region.

Colorado Springs is home to more than 250 space, aerospace, and defense companies bolstered by robust and growing space, aerospace, and cybersecurity workforce. Billions of dollars are planned for investment in Colorado Springs by defense companies including Lockheed Martin, Microchip, Bluestaq, Aerospace Corporation, L3 Harris, Boeing, and Northrop Grumman, among others. These investments will create thousands of jobs and generate millions of capital investment and produce tremendous synergy between industry and the government. With an annual economic impact of over $7 billion from aerospace and defense industries, Colorado Springs remains the epicenter for the defense space enterprise.

Space Delta 12 prepares USSF forces to prevail in a contested, degraded, and operationally limited environment through the independent test and evaluation of USSF capabilities and delivery of timely, accurate, and expert information in support of weapon system acquisition, operational acceptance, and readiness decision.

Space Delta 15 is USSF’s command and control organization within Space Operations Command that is presented to U.S. Space Command and the Combined Joint Force Space Component Command to accomplish the National Space Defense Center’s protect and defend space mission.

The 74th ISR Squadron provides tailored threat analysis and intelligence production for tactical space operations. Their vision is to provide meaningful threat application to empower space operations to combat current, emerging and future adversaries. The Space Operations Command is seeking to activate the 75th ISR Squadron in late 2023.
