The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has introduced a resource management plan aimed at conserving big game habitats and the Gunnison sage-grouse on federal lands in Colorado. This initiative has sparked concerns regarding its potential effects on energy independence, development, rural economies, and property rights.
Congressman Lamborn expressed his apprehensions about the plan's impact on access to energy and mineral resources. "While the BLM highlights its collaborative approach with stakeholders, this plan still significantly restricts access to valuable energy and mineral resources," he stated. Lamborn warned that prioritizing conservation measures could hinder energy development crucial for local economies, especially those reliant on oil and gas industries.
Lamborn emphasized the importance of energy development for Colorado's economic growth, job creation, and affordable energy provision for residents. He criticized the restrictions imposed by BLM on areas with high oil and gas potential as burdensome to the industry. According to him, these measures could worsen issues related to energy supply and inflation.
He described this move as federal overreach that undermines local control while negatively impacting Colorado's economy.
