Tigers Dominate Buena Vista University to Close Rocky Mountain Classic

Five Tigers scored in the double digits in their 94-55 win over the Buena Vista University Beavers on Saturday afternoon in Reid Arena.

CC started he game with all the momentum with a 9-2 run in the first three minutes, and the Beavers never recovered from the deficit. The Tigers held the Beavers to 30.9% from the field and 29.4% from behind the arc.

Sophomore guard Laura Strenk led CC with 16 points, five rebounds, three steals and three assists in only three quarters of play. Her 16 points in the victory ties her career-high points in a single game. Junior guard Olivia Xerras came off the bench to score a career high 12 points and three rebounds.

The Tigers went on a 19 point run to start the second quarter started by senior forward Rosie Braley drawing a shooting foul and making the subsequent pair of free throws. Braley scored eight points and made two blocks against the Beavers.

CC scored 57 points from the bench, including a combined 14 points from freshman Kayla Mackel and Andie Will.

"Tonight was a fantastic team win and the momentum we need heading into conference play." coach Katherine Menendez said. "Laura Strenk had an all-around strong showing and led us with her tempo, sharp shooting, and all-out effort on defense. Our junior class showed up as well with each member in double digit scoring. Emma did a great job with a perfect percentage from the field plus her rebounding, Olivia put up a career high and generated hustle plays, and Audrey shot it well from behind the arc and rebounded with strength throughout. We are on a great trajectory as we head into December and I'm very proud of the contributions of each member of our squad."

The Beavers were held to just 13 points off turnovers and eight fast-break points.
