Tigers Fight, Fall to Whitworth University

Colorado College fell to the Whitworth University Pirates, 74-65 in the consolation match of the Rocky Mountain Classic on Saturday night.

The Tigers were led by Scott Ruegg and Dinari Boykin who scored 15 and 16 points each. Ruegg went 3-5 from behind the arc and notched a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.

Eight Tigers found their way into the scoring column in Saturday night's loss. Kevin Dittman made an impact on both sides of the court and nabbed nine rebounds, including seven defensive boards, four points and three assists.

"Our guys showed a lot of heart and grit today, rebounding after last night's loss against a veteran and perennial NCAA tournament team in Whitworth," coach Jeff Conarroe said. "To do that without Devin [Philio] and Trey [Crawford] in the way we played tonight, I was really pleased with their effort, fight and heart. To hold them even on the glass is huge, turned the ball over a few to many times but overall a big turn around and step in the right direction fo our team."

CC held the Pirates to just two second-chance points and to just a 40% field goal percentage compared to their average 50% from the field.

Four of the five starters for the Pirates scored in the double digits, including Jake Holtz who led Whitworth with 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Up Next for Colorado College
The Tigers are set to travel to Memphis, TN. this weekend to take on Covenant College and Rhodes College on Saturday and Sunday.
