Air Force men’s water polo secured a 19-18 victory over Gannon University during the second day of the Bucknell Invitational at Kinney Natatorium, hosted by Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Junior utility player Tom Leggett led the Falcons with six goals and set a new school record for most career goals scored.
Leggett’s performance brought his career total to 343 goals, surpassing the previous Air Force record of 339 goals held by Hall of Famer Ben Phillips. “The six goals gave Leggett 343 for his career. He surpassed the 339 goals scored by Air Force Athletics Hall of Famer Ben Phillips,” according to Air Force Athletics.
Sophomore Brady Kopperud contributed four goals, while junior Jack Richards added three goals and one assist. The Falcons maintained a narrow lead throughout the game, leading 4-3 after the first quarter and holding a 9-8 advantage at halftime. A third-quarter surge put Air Force ahead 15-13 going into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, Air Force extended its lead to three before Gannon closed the gap to one goal late in the game. The Falcons prevented Gannon from scoring in the final 56 seconds to secure their win.
With this victory, Air Force improved its season record to 13 wins and five losses. The team will not compete next weekend and is scheduled to resume play on Thursday, October 2, when it begins WCC competition against Pacific.
