Passenger Identified from Crash on I-25 at Bijou Street

On Monday, June 12, 2023, at 11:51 AM, members of the Colorado Springs Police Department, Gold Hill Division, were dispatched to the area of I-25 and Bijou St. regarding a single-vehicle traffic crash. When officers arrived, they found a Ram 2500 had been traveling north on I-25 when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to the heavy rains. After losing control of the vehicle, it rolled over, ejecting the female passenger. The driver and the passenger were transported from the scene with serious life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 4:45 PM, the passenger from the truck succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital. On Friday, June 16, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased female. The deceased female has been identified as 85-year-old Kay Tallent of Colorado Springs. Currently, neither speed nor alcohol are suspected factors in this crash. This is the 22nd fatal traffic crash in Colorado Springs this year. At this same time last year, there were 19 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
