UPDATE

On June 22, 2023, the Colorado Springs Police Department Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force arrested 20-year-old Omar Martinez-Sarmiento after CSPD Homicide Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Murder in the First Degree.  Mr. Martinez-Sarmiento was charged with the murder of 41-year-old Elijah Beatty on December 12, 2022, in the 2500 block of Airport Road. Victim from Airport Road Shooting Identified

Update

On Monday, December 19, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the deceased victim, who has been identified as 42-year-old Elijah Beatty, a resident of Colorado Springs.  While the Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, Mr. Beatty’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

Mr. Beatty’s death is the 51st homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2022.  The Colorado Spring Police Department had investigated 43 homicides this time last year.

On December 12, 2022 at 4:32 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 2500 block of Airport Road. The location is an unlicensed after-hours nightclub. When officers arrived, they located three people who had sustained gunshot wounds. One person was deceased. Detectives from the Colorado Springs Police Homicide-Assault Unit responded to take over the investigation.
