WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Lamborn joined 57 other U.S. Representatives to admonish the Biden administration for its plan to establish a national abortion “hotline.” The administration plans to use $1.5 million in grant funding through the Department of Health and Human Services to set up a national hotline that will counsel individuals on how to obtain an abortion.

“This is a complete misuse of taxpayer dollars and in direct defiance of Title X and the Hyde Amendment,” said Congressman Lamborn. “I am deeply concerned about the administration’s plan to establish an abortion hotline and urge President Biden to instead provide resources and care options for mothers facing unplanned pregnancies. We have a responsibility to help expectant mothers and protect the unborn.”

The Public Health Service Act was enacted to provide family planning services and related preventative health services for low-income women. The underlying Title X statute of the Public Health Service (42 U.S.C. 300a-6) prohibits Title X dollars from funding abortion as a method of family planning. In its grant announcement, the Department of Health and Human Services requires the hotline to offer pregnant clients the opportunity to be provided information and counseling about pregnancy termination.

In the letter, Congressman Lamborn urges the Department of Health and Human Services to develop a hotline and website with comprehensive information on holistic care and resources available from federal, state, and local governments and private entities. The Department of Health and Human Services should assist pregnant women and their unborn children and empower families across America to choose life.
