Colorado College's bid for its first-ever outright conference tournament title came to end Saturday night with a 3-0 loss to seventh-ranked St. Cloud State in the NCHC Championship Game at the Xcel Energy Center.

The Tigers, winners of three straight postseason games to their first league title game since 2013, were in search of their first NCAA Tournament bid since 2011 after blanking third-ranked and top seed Denver, 1-0, in the semifinals on Friday.

St. Cloud State, which defeated North Dakota, 3-2, in overtime in the other semifinal, struck first when Jami Krannila scored at the 14:54 mark of the first period. Zach Okabe sent the puck to the net from the right point and Krannila redirected it out of midair up and over CC goalie Kaidan Mbereko.

Neither team scored in the second period, then Grant Cruishank doubled the Husky lead early 2:43 into the final frame. Micah Miller stole the puck behind the Tiger net, came around to the front and passed the puck across the crease to Cruikshank, who was all alone on the opposite side.

Kyler Kupka made it 3-0 at the 6:40 mark, taking a pass from Cruikshank and placing a shot in front past Mbereko.

The Tigers had a 5-on-3 advantage for 1:06 in the final five minutes, and Mbereko was on the bench for the last 3:35, but could not get anything past the Husky defense (15 blocked shots) and goalie Jaxon Castor (17 saves).

St. Cloud State outshot the Tigers, 26-17. Hunter McKown led CC with three shots while Mbereko finished with 23 saves.

McKown, who leads the nation with 14 power-play goals, and graduate student Bryan Yoon, who finished his career tied for fourth on the school's career games played list with 167, were named to the NCHC all-tournament team.

Colorado College finished the 2022-23 season with a 13-22-3 overall record.
