Junior Emma Fowkes and sophomore Erin Capell each posted a first-place finish and sophomore Sydney Rankin set a school record Saturday to lead the Colorado College women's track and field team at the Oxy Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic in Los Angeles, Calif.
Fowkes finished first 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.51 seconds, while Capell won the women's shot put with a throw of 35'2.75".
Meanwhile, Rankin broke the school record and finished third in the 1500 with a time of 4:37.11, surpassing the previous mark of 4:37.99, set by Annabel Arnott in 1995.
Fowkes also placed second in the high jump with a leap of 4'11" and joined senior Shekinah Oloyede and freshmen Clara Lippert and Emma Jones on the seventh-place 4x100 relay team that posted a time of 51.26 seconds.
Senior Dafna Williams, sophomore Britt Helgaas and senior Charlotte Furman finished 2-3-4 in the 10K, while Lippert placed third in the 400 (1:00.39).
Other top 10 results on Saturday included junior April Kwan (fourth in high jump and fifth in long jump), freshman Ashi Soni (fifth in the 110 hurdles), junior Julia Solano (fifth in the 3K steeplechase) and Jones (sixth in the 400 and high jump).
"It was exciting to see a school record set today," head coach Katie Bretscher said. "We had several personal bests as well. I am very proud of how we competed and supported one another as a team."
The Tigers return to action at the Dan Caprigliano Early Bird Meet at CSU-Pueblo on Saturday, March 18.
