Colorado College junior James Settles broke the school record in the 5K Saturday at the Oxy Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic in Los Angeles, Calif.
Settles, the 2022 SCAC cross country individual champion, finished sixth in the 5K on Saturday with a time of 14:23.05, surpassing the previous record of 14:30.1, set by Julian Boggs in 2007.
Freshman Rabbit Barnes posted the Tigers' best finish of the day with a runner-up result in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:53.48.
Senior Leighton Graham placed third in the shot put (42'4.25") and discus (131'2"), while Josh Williams finished fifth in the 100 with a time of 11.06 seconds and eighth in the 400 in 50.77 seconds.
Williams joined sophomores Kyle Sun and Holden Perry and freshman Asher Todd-Tarady to place eighth in the 4x100 relay (43.78 seconds), while junior Nathan Vincent finished ninth in the high jump with a leap of 4'11".
Perry and Vincent were 12th (120') and 14th (100'8"), respectively, in the javelin.
"It was exciting to see a school record set today," head coach Katie Bretscher said. "We had several personal bests as well. I am very proud of how we competed and supported one another as a team."
The Tigers return to action at the Dan Caprigliano Early Bird Meet at CSU-Pueblo on Saturday, March 18.
