Colorado College Athletics recently issued the following announcement.
Five members of the Colorado College women's lacrosse team earned all-West Region accolades from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association in recognition of their performances during the recently-completed 2022 season.
Junior goaltender Natalie Slade and sophomore midfielder Devon Ortman were named to the first team, while senior defender Natalie Schluter, sophomore defender Caroline Shay and freshman attacker Tobin Lonergan earned a spot on the second team.
Slade, who earned second-team honors in 2021, started 17 of 18 games in goal and posted a 12.63 goals-against average and a .465 saves percentage. The first-team all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference selection recorded double-digit saves eight times, including a career-best 18 in the season opener at Rhodes College. One of the most athletic goalkeepers in program history, Slade also led the Tigers with 44 ground balls and caused nine turnovers.
In her first season at CC, Ortman was the team's most versatile and effective player throughout the season and was named the SCAC Midfielder of the Year and a first-team all-conference selection. She led the Tigers with 83 draw controls, which ranked fifth on the program's single-season list, and finished first among the field players with 36 ground balls, Ortman also ranked second on the team with 39 points and 19 assists, and finished fifth with 20 goals.
Schluter, who anchored the Colorado College defense and earned all-region honors for the first time, ranked second on the team with 16 caused turnovers and third with 32 ground balls, both of which were career highs. The two-time first-team all-SCAC selection tied her career highs of four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers against No. 21 Amherst College.
The SCAC Rookie of the Year and first-team all-conference selection, Lonergan led the Tigers with 41 goals, which ties for 24th place on the program's single-season list, and 59 points, which ranks 22nd. The left-handed sharp-shooter made an immediate impact by striking for six goals during victories over Illinois Wesleyan University in her second collegiate game and against McDaniel College when she posted season-best eight points.
In her debut season, Shay finished third on the team with 26 goals and tied for fourth with 33 points. The honorable-mention all-conference selection struck for a season-best six goals in CC's 24-8 victory over Southwestern University in the SCAC Championship and was named the game's Offensive MVP.
