Colorado College Athletics recently issued the following announcement.
Five individuals and one team were inducted into the Colorado College Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday night at Ed Robson Arena. Julian Boggs '08 (men's cross country/track and field), Martina Holan '98 (women's soccer), Heather McGuire '94 (volleyball), Brett Sterling '06 (hockey), Dr. Thomas Mahony '67 (team physician) and the 1973 football team were enshrined as the Class of 2021
Boggs is Colorado College's only five-time All-American, earning the honor three times in cross country and twice in track. He finished third at the 2006 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships and placed second and fifth, respectively, in the 5K at the 2006 and '07 DIII National Track and Field Meet. Boggs, a three-time SCAC champion in track and the league's 2006 cross country champion, was recently named to the SCAC 30th Anniversary Men's Track and Field Team.
Holan is ranked No. 2 on CC's career lists with 107 points and 45 goals. She also is tied for No. 7 with 17 assists and owns a share of the school record with four hat tricks. Holan led the team in scoring in each of her final three seasons and her 16 goals as a sophomore in 1995 still is tied for the second-most in one season by a CC player. She competed for Canada in the 2007 World Cup and the 2008 Summer Olympics.
McGuire was named a Division III All-American in 1993, as well as a two-time Academic All-American in '93 and '94. She is the school's career leader for total blocks (558) and block solos (279) and No. 2 in program history with 279 block assists. McGuire also produced offensively, ranking 14th on CC's career list with 929 kills.
Sterling is one of CC's most recognizable hockey players, earning All-American honors in 2005 and '06. In addition, he was named an Academic All-American those two seasons. Sterling finished second in the nation in scoring during the 2004-05 season with 63 points and was a "Hobey Hat Trick" finalist that year. The next season, he finished fifth in the nation in scoring with 55 points and was a "Top 10 Finalist" for the Hobey. Sterling, who helped the 2003 and '05 teams to the WCHA title and the 2004-05 squad advance to the NCAA Frozen Four, ranks No. 3 on CC's career list with 108 goals and 11th with 184 points. He played 30 games in the NHL with Atlanta, Pittsburgh and St. Louis.
Mahony served as the chief athletic team physician for the CC Athletics Department from 1978-2010. He was a two-sport athlete at CC, playing football and baseball. Following his graduation in 1967, he earned his Director of Medicine degree from the University of Colorado. During his tenure with CC, Mahony won the Lloyd E. Worner Award for Service from the school, and the Thomas E. Mahony Award is given annually to the top student who is directly involved in the school's Sports Medicine Department.
The 1973 football team posted a 9-1 record, the most wins in one season in program history, and allowed just 10 points per game. Loaded with underclassmen (25 freshmen, 15 sophomores and just nine seniors), the team exceeded all expectations that year. The Tigers, who ran the single-wing offense from 1971-76 under head coach Jerry Carle, outscored their opponents 242-104 and recorded a pair of shutouts in '73.
