EL PAS COUNTY: El Paso County Junior Livestock Sale Benefits Area Youth

Farm

El Paso County issued the following announcement on July 15.

Area youth have put in months of hard work raising their premium livestock and preparing for the annual El Paso County Show and Junior Livestock Sale. The annual Junior Livestock Sale brings the opportunity to sell their animals at the end of the show.

As with most events in 2020, the annual Junior Livestock Sale will look different this year. Due to COVID- 19 crowd restrictions, the Sale organizers have elected to partner with online sale provider StockShowAuctions.com to provide for online auction style bidding in conjunction with and simultaneous to the live auction.

The Junior Livestock Sale will include approximately 100 market animals for sale. As part of the online process, junior exhibitors have the opportunity to hone their photography, videography, creative writing, digital media, sales and marketing skills in efforts to generate buyer interest in their project.

“We were adamant about designing a platform that was more than an auction site, we felt it necessary to enhance and extend the educational experience of the junior exhibitors. They may find something in this process that really appeals to them and changes their educational and future career track. We’ll count that as a big win for our service” says Brent Graves with StockShowAuctions.com, the company hosting the online platform for the El Paso County Junior Livestock Sale.

Businesses and individuals wishing to support the exhibitors can do so in two ways; one is by bidding and purchasing the animal and the second is through “Add-Ons” in any amount. Add-ons are straight donations to the exhibitors and no purchase is necessary. The opportunity to participate as an Add-On contributor will be open from Friday, July 17, 2020 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2020.

The live auction for bidding and purchasing the animal will begin at 1:00 MST on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the El Paso County Fair and Event Center, located at 366 10th Street, in Calhan, Colorado. Due to capacity limitations, only registered buyers seeking to purchase an animal will be allowed access to the event. For those wishing to bid from the comfort of their home, the StockShowAuctions.com platform allows for bidding simulcast with the live auction. Buyers who purchase animals will be able to select whether they wish to resell the project or choose what processor they wish to use.

“These kids have been raising and caring for these animals for months, they have been dealt a challenge and with everyone’s support we can have a great sale for them,” said Sale Committee Manager, Patty Woodard. “These livestock projects teach responsibility, value of hard work, and a financial reward for their efforts, which many will use for next year’s project or to further their education after high school.”
