Seven members of the Air Force men’s gymnastics team were selected on April 7 to compete at the upcoming NCAA National Collegiate Men’s Gymnastics Championships, with one additional gymnast named as an alternate. The event will take place April 17-18 at State Farm Center on the University of Illinois campus in Champaign.
The selection committee announced that Sam Brown will compete in pommel horse; Jack Thomas Foltyn will participate in vault and parallel bars; Jared Fry qualified for all-around; Tai Gopaul is set for floor exercise, parallel bars, and high bar, while also serving as an alternate for still rings. Ryan Jacobsen was named an alternate for still rings. Isaac Koo earned spots in vault and high bar and is an alternate for floor exercise. Jack Matlock qualified on pommel horse, and Palmer Wright will compete on parallel bars.
The championship weekend starts with two qualifying sessions on Friday, April 17. According to the announcement, “the top three teams, top three all-arounders not on an advancing team, and top three individuals from each event not already qualified on a team or as an all-arounder” will move forward from the National Qualifier to the NCAA Championships scheduled for Saturday, April 18.
This selection highlights a significant achievement for Air Force men’s gymnastics athletes as they prepare to face national competition among collegiate peers.
