Sergeant Patrick Gallagher of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was named the 2025 Officer of the Year by the Colorado Police Protective Association, according to a March 24 announcement. Gallagher received this recognition during a formal presentation on March 18, honoring his service and commitment to protecting citizens in the Pikes Peak region.

The award highlights Gallagher’s dedication to law enforcement and his efforts in safeguarding vulnerable members of the community. His career includes significant work investigating crimes against children and upholding standards within his department.

“Sergeant Gallagher exemplifies the professionalism, dedication, and integrity which define the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a relentless commitment to protecting our community, particularly the most vulnerable among us, children. His work investigating crimes against children, along with his continued dedication to upholding the highest standards within our organization, exemplifies the professionalism and integrity we expect from those who wear this badge. I am proud to congratulate Sergeant Gallagher on this well-deserved recognition.”

Gallagher has served with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office for fifteen years in various roles. He started in the Detentions Bureau before moving to Patrol duties. From 2015 through 2022 he worked in the Special Victims Unit and spent two years with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigating child exploitation cases. After being promoted to Sergeant, he served as a Patrol Sergeant before joining Internal Affairs where he conducts internal investigations.

The sheriff’s office extended its congratulations and gratitude for Gallagher’s ongoing service following this recognition.
