Representative Jeff Crank of Colorado’s 5th District voted in support of H.R. 4090, known as the Critical Mineral Dominance Act, in the U.S. House of Representatives. The legislation is designed to strengthen domestic production of hardrock minerals, which are considered essential for national and economic security due to their use in defense, aerospace, energy, and manufacturing.

Currently, China holds about 60% of global critical mineral production. Domestic mining efforts in the United States have been hindered by regulatory uncertainty and litigation delays over several decades. This has increased U.S. dependence on Chinese mineral supplies and posed risks to American supply chains.

“A few months ago, House Natural Resources Committee voted on this important legislation, which I am pleased to see now pass the House,” said Rep. Crank. “We cannot afford to be falling behind China. Codifying President Trump’s Executive Order will support hardrock mining in the U.S., boost supply chain resiliency, create jobs, and break our reliance on China. Passing this legislation is vital to our nation’s economy and national security.”

The Critical Mineral Dominance Act aims to reinforce actions taken under former President Trump by directing the Department of the Interior to prioritize and streamline critical mineral production on federal lands.
