Representative Jeff Crank of Colorado’s 5th District issued a statement following his vote against House Concurrent Resolution 38, which called for the removal of United States Armed Forces from unauthorized hostilities in Iran. The resolution was brought under section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution.

Crank stated, “The President has the Constitutional authority to defend the United States from our adversaries. For nearly fifty years, the Iranian regime has posed a significant threat to our nation by brutally killing our servicemembers, murdering our citizens, and attempting to assassinate President Trump—all while developing nuclear capabilities. Both Republican and Democrat presidents have attempted to negotiate deals with the Iranian regime, only to be met with lies and rejection. This Administration has set clear goals to annihilate Iran’s nuclear capabilities, Navy, and more to save the globe from terror.”

The War Powers Resolution allows Congress to direct the removal of U.S. forces engaged in hostilities without congressional authorization. Recent tensions between Iran and the United States have led some lawmakers to push for stricter limits on military engagement without explicit approval from Congress.
