Senior noseguard Payton Zdroik has been named to the Lombardi Award Preseason Watchlist, according to an announcement from the organization.
The Lombardi Award, established in 1970 in honor of coach Vince Lombardi, is presented annually in Houston, Texas. The award recognizes outstanding linemen who demonstrate leadership, courage, performance, and discipline both on and off the field. The upcoming 2025 award dinner is scheduled for December 10, with proceeds supporting cancer research.
This year’s watchlist includes a range of players across defensive and offensive positions: 10 defensive ends, 7 defensive tackles, 12 linebackers; and on offense, 11 offensive tackles, 6 offensive guards, 5 centers, and 3 tight ends. Representation spans major conferences such as the SEC (16 players), Big Ten (12), Big 12 (5), ACC (7), as well as other conferences including Mountain West.
As the season progresses, additional standout performers may be added to the list. These athletes are recognized not only for their play but also for upholding values associated with Vince Lombardi’s legacy.
Zdroik has started on Air Force’s defensive line for three seasons. Last year he made 18 total tackles and was second on the team in both tackles for loss (6.5) and sacks (3.0). He leads all active Falcons with career totals of 23 tackles for loss and 13 sacks—tied for tenth in program history—and has recorded a tackle behind the line in 19 out of his last 30 games.
Air Force will begin its season against Bucknell on August 30 at Falcon Stadium. Season tickets can be purchased or renewed through www.aftickets.com or by calling 719-472-1895.
