Leggett breaks points record as Air Force falls to San Jose State

Air Force Academy’s men’s water polo team lost to sixth-ranked San Jose State, 14-9, in a West Coast Conference match on Sunday at the Cadet Natatorium. Despite the defeat, junior Tom Leggett set a new school record for points in a season with five points in the game, bringing his total to 187 and surpassing his previous record of 183 from last year. Leggett currently leads the nation in both points and goals scored.

Jack Richards contributed four goals for Air Force. The first quarter was closely contested, ending with San Jose State leading 2-1. In the second quarter, San Jose State went on a 6-1 run to take an 8-2 lead at halftime. Air Force outscored San Jose State 7-6 in the second half, including a 5-3 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Goalkeeper Luca Smith made 11 saves for Air Force before Jay Pyle took over in the fourth quarter and recorded three saves.

Air Force will play its regular season and home finale against Santa Clara next Saturday, November 8.
