Holy Cross secured a 3-2 overtime victory against Air Force in an Atlantic Hockey America matchup on Friday, January 16, at the Hart Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The game began with Holy Cross (11-8-2, 9-2-2 AHA) taking an early lead. Ty Gagno assisted Anthony Carone for his first career goal at 5:55 of the first period.

Air Force (10-11-2, 6-8-1 AHA) responded in the second period by scoring twice within 86 seconds. Nick Sajevic scored with help from Will Dawson and Sam Stitz at 12:46. Shortly after, Ren Morque put back a rebound from Holt Oliphant’s shot at 14:12, with Mason McCormick also assisting, giving Air Force a brief lead.

Later in the second period, Holy Cross had a two-man advantage for over a minute but was unable to score. However, they tied the game during the subsequent power play when Michael Abgrall scored off a rebound at 17:02.

Neither team scored in the third period. The game moved into overtime with both teams earning one point in the standings. At 2:08 of overtime, Noah Eyre scored following an Air Force turnover to secure an additional point for Holy Cross.

Both teams recorded 23 shots on goal. Holy Cross converted one of four power plays and successfully killed all five of Air Force’s power play opportunities. Danick Laroux made 21 saves for Holy Cross while Dominik Wasik stopped 20 shots for Air Force.

“This was a crazy, chaotic and emotional game,” said head coach Frank Serratore. “It was a pretty evenly played game. Then we had a bad turnover there in overtime. It was a hard fought, physical game and when it was all said and done, they made the play that won the game for them. Now we have to get ready for tomorrow and I expect a similar type of game.”

The two teams will finish their league series on Saturday, January 17, in Worcester.
