Junior Eli Huntington led the Air Force golf team on March 8 during the first day of the Bandon Dunes Championship at the Pacific Dunes Course in Bandon, Oregon.
Huntington matched his career-low score with a 67, finishing four under par. He made five birdies and only one bogey, placing him sixth overall after the opening round. Freshman Ben Zeiler also performed well, making four birdies and tying for 27th place with a one-under-par 70. Seniors Ted Davenport, Brooks Morrell, and Eric Liveringhouse finished their rounds with scores of 75, 76, and 77 respectively. Carson Baker competed as an individual and shot a 79.
Oregon State led all teams after the first round with a score of 263, which is 21 under par. Oregon followed in second place at 268 (-16), while Utah Tech was third at 279 (-5). The Air Force team ended the day tied for twelfth place with a total score of 288 (+4), marking its third best round this season.
The tournament will continue with the second round scheduled to begin at 7:45 am Pacific Time on Monday, March 8 in Bandon.
