On the night of January 31, 2026, Colorado Springs Police Department officers responded to a disturbance near Marion Drive and Delaware Drive. The incident involved a male reportedly chasing a female, with information suggesting that one of the individuals might have been armed.

When officers arrived, they encountered an adult female who was holding a knife. According to police, she fled from officers and did not comply with commands to stop. During the pursuit, she discarded the knife but continued running.

The woman then entered the front seat of a marked CSPD patrol vehicle and refused to exit when ordered by officers. As they tried to remove her from the vehicle, she reached for a duty shotgun inside the car. At that point, an officer fired at least one shot, hitting her.

Officers provided medical aid until emergency medical services arrived. The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Micaela Pasillas. She was taken to a local hospital with at least one gunshot wound and is expected to survive. Criminal charges are pending against Pasillas.

Responsibility for investigating the officer-involved shooting has been transferred to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office under the Deadly Force Investigation Team protocol.

“The officer involved has been placed on routine administrative leave in accordance with CSPD department policy,” according to authorities. “Additional information will be released as it becomes available and when appropriate.”
