On January 24, 2026, deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office identified a Scion tC sedan suspected of involvement in several recent incidents where drivers had evaded law enforcement. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle after it entered a parking lot, but the driver fled and was not pursued at that time.

Later that evening, around 9:30 PM, deputies spotted the same vehicle traveling north on Powers Boulevard near Galley Road. The driver reportedly drove recklessly and ran a red light at the intersection of Powers Boulevard and Palmer Park Boulevard. Colorado State Patrol troopers were called to assist with the situation.

At approximately 11:05 PM, law enforcement observed the vehicle heading southbound on Powers Boulevard near North Carefree Circle. Deputies tracked its movements while waiting for state troopers to arrive. As the car continued south near Aeroplaza Drive, it accelerated rapidly. Due to fresh snowfall and hazardous road conditions, the driver lost control, crashed into the median, and came to rest on the right shoulder.

Deputies from both agencies blocked in the disabled vehicle to prevent further attempts at escape. The driver was taken into custody without incident; a passenger was also detained.

“This incident reflects the importance of strong collaboration between law-enforcement agencies and the discipline to exercise patience in the interest of public safety,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “By working closely with our partners at the Colorado State Patrol and maintaining a coordinated, measured response, deputies were able to bring this situation to a safe conclusion without injuries. These outcomes are the result of teamwork, communication, and a shared commitment to protecting our community.”

Authorities identified David Christman, age 19, as the driver. He was medically cleared before being booked into El Paso County Jail on three counts of felony eluding as well as charges for reckless driving, reckless endangerment, and multiple other traffic violations. Christman was released on January 26 after posting $4,000 bond.
