The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office marked School Resource Officer Appreciation Day on February 15, 2026, by recognizing its team of 10 School Resource Officers (SROs) and the SRO Sergeant who leads the program. These officers are assigned to six school districts in El Paso County: Widefield School District 3, Lewis-Palmer School District 38, Falcon School District 49, Academy School District 20, Hanover School District 28, and Ellicott School District 22.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the SROs serve as mentors and role models for students while ensuring campus safety. Their responsibilities include building relationships with students and staff, supporting positive decision-making, assisting with conflict resolution, and working closely with school administrators to maintain safe learning environments.
Oversight of the program is provided by an SRO Sergeant who coordinates efforts across all participating districts. The Sergeant’s role includes supervision and guidance to promote consistency and professionalism among the deputies.
Sheriff Joseph Roybal stated: “The School Resource Officer program is one of the most important partnerships we have in our community. Our deputies are more than law enforcement officers on campus — they are mentors, protectors, and positive role models. I am incredibly proud of the dedication shown by our SROs and the leadership of our SRO Sergeant, Josie Haag, in keeping our schools safe and building meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families.”
The Sheriff’s Office expressed appreciation for its collaboration with each district involved in the program. The agency emphasized its ongoing commitment to student protection and support.
On SRO Appreciation Day, thanks were extended to both the officers and their sergeant for their service to local schools.
