The facility was licensed for 39 beds as of the first quarter of 2026, which is 55 fewer than the average for Colorado nursing homes during the same period. It cared for an average of 19.5 residents in that quarter.
Cheyenne Manor reported no fines or penalties in the first quarter of 2026.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the nation’s older adult population is increasing while the number of children is declining. Between 2020 and 2024, the population of Americans age 65 and older rose by 13%, as the number under age 18 decreased by 1.7%. The older adult population in the U.S. has expanded significantly since 1920, from 4.9 million to more than 61 million by 2024.
Research from 2021 finds that nearly half of this age group, or approximately 28 million people, could need long-term services and support. More than one-third may eventually require care in a nursing facility.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an organization that provides insurance education. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
