Air Force junior Carson Baker led his team on the opening day of the third annual Commander-in-Chief’s Cup, held at Winged Foot Golf Course in Mamaroneck, New York. The event began Tuesday, September 30, with teams from Air Force, Army, and Navy each playing 36 holes.
Baker recorded three birdies in the second round and finished with a score of 73 (+3), after shooting 78 (+8) in the first round. He currently stands in fourth place out of 24 participants with a combined score of 151 (+11).
Junior Eli Huntington also made three birdies during the first round and posted a two-over-par 72. He followed this with an 83 (+13) in the second round and is eighth overall at 155 (+15). Senior Brooks Morrell ended the day in tenth place with a total of 157 (+17), scoring an opening-round 81 and a second-round 76 (+6) that included four birdies.
Other Air Force competitors include senior Ted Davenport (158), sophomore Jackson Scaletta (161), senior Eric Liveringhouse (166), freshman Ben Zeiler (167), and senior Alvaro Fonseca (168).
Navy leads after the first day with a team score of 908, ahead of Army at 930 and Air Force at 944 (474-470). This tournament uses a format where eight players compete for each school, with the top six scores counting toward the team total—different from most collegiate tournaments that count only the top four scores from five players.
The final round will take place Wednesday, October 1, starting at 7 am ET at Winged Foot Golf Course.
