Air Force Women’s Tennis achieved a 4-1 win over Wyoming at Cadet East Gym on April 2, marking the team’s fourth victory in its last five matches.
The match saw Air Force take an early lead by capturing the doubles point. Wyoming’s Eugenia Ceinos and Madlena Orlova won the first doubles set against Arianna Van Houweling and Shivaani Selvan, but Air Force responded with wins from Abby Cotuna and Sofia Mavor as well as Maya Michalski and Jariahlyn Rhoades to secure a 1-0 advantage.
In singles play, Van Houweling defeated Silver Bijlsma in straight sets, improving her spring record to 8-3. Mavor added another point for Air Force with a decisive win over Ceinos. Wyoming avoided a shutout when Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia beat Cotuna, but Falcon freshman Yule Kang clinched the overall team victory by overcoming Violetta Borodina after rallying from behind in the second set.
Rhoades and Nadia Kojonroj were both leading their respective third sets when Air Force secured the match. Head coach Taylor Hollander said, “Today was a battle. We have a ton of respect for Wyoming and knew it would come down to who wanted it more. From top to bottom, everyone competed hard, and it was incredible to see the fight on every court.”
Looking ahead, Air Force Women’s Tennis will honor its two upcoming graduates during Senior Day on Saturday as they face Colorado State at home.
