Air Force Women’s Tennis lost to the Denver Pioneers, 4-0, in a match held on Feb. 6 at the Denver Tennis Park.
The match was closely contested in doubles play, with Air Force and Denver splitting victories on courts one and three. The deciding point came down to court two, where Arianna Van Houweling and Nadia Kojonroj of Air Force were narrowly defeated by Louise Wikander and Yunfei Cai of Denver after a tiebreaker. This gave the Pioneers an early lead heading into singles competition.
In singles matches, Air Force dropped contests on courts six, five, and one. Yule Kang had taken a lead against Zoe Adkins before her match was called off due to the clinch rule once Denver secured enough points for victory. Other unfinished matches included Van Houweling against Marley Lambert and Kojonroj against Natalie Cinkova.
Head Coach Taylor Hollander said after the match: “Denver is a tough team, but I’m proud of how our group showed up and competed. We took the lessons from last week’s loss and applied them this week, and it showed in our play. We had to make some last-minute adjustments as a team, and it was great to see everyone step up to the challenge.”
Looking ahead, Air Force Women’s Tennis (1-5) will travel to Orlando for their next matchup against Army West Point on College MatchDay at the USTA National Campus scheduled for Feb. 14.
