Air Force Women’s Tennis defeated No. 63 Grand Canyon with a score of 4-2 on Mar. 27 in Phoenix, strengthening its position near the top of the Mountain West standings.
The win marks Air Force’s third consecutive road victory and sixth win in its last seven matches, bringing the team’s overall record to 7-10 and Mountain West record to 4-1. The Falcons are now tied for second place with San Diego State and trail UNLV and Boise State by one match for the lead.
In doubles play, Air Force secured the opening point for the eighth straight match. Maya Michalski and Jariahlyn Rhoades won their match against Amalia Siciu and Peyton Duckett, while Arianna Van Houweling and Shivaani Selvan clinched a tiebreaker on court two to give Air Force a 1-0 lead after doubles.
Junior Nadia Kojonroj was first to secure a singles victory, defeating Dania Deaifi in straight sets. Freshman Yule Kang also contributed with a win over Hams Metwally, snapping her own three-match losing streak. Abby Cotuna sealed the overall team victory by coming from behind to defeat Isabella Crossman in a third-set tiebreaker.
Head Coach Taylor Hollander said about the team’s performance: “It was a battle from start to finish today. This team faced adversity at every turn but stayed composed and kept moving forward. In tennis, you don’t get to dwell – you reset, refocus, and play the next point. I’m very proud of the grit and resilience shown by those of us who dug deep.”
Looking ahead, Air Force will close out its four-match road stretch against San Diego State before returning home next week for matches against Wyoming and Colorado State.
