Air Force defeated Seattle University 208-54 in a women’s swimming and diving meet at the Redhawk Center on Friday, January 16. The Falcons achieved ten individual first-place finishes and broke four facility records during the event.
“It was a great night for our team, we raced tough and saw the results of our hard work over the last few weeks,” said head coach Colleen Murphy. “We are about four and a half weeks from conference and this team is poised for a great meet.”
The 200 medley relay team consisting of Kai-Min Tsuei, Naomi Furman, Amber Martin, and Ryan Mills set a new Redhawk Center record with their winning time of 1:42.48.
Abby Miller set an individual pool record by finishing first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:11.01. Katie Andrist finished second at 10:15.60, followed by Grace Nickell in third at 10:22.36.
In the 200 freestyle, Lily Larson took first place with a time of 1:50.11. Ryan Mills finished second (1:51.78), while Natalie Doig placed third (1:53.16). Larson also won the 500 freestyle (4:56.96), with Doig in second (5:04.18) and Andrist third (5:06.42).
Brynn Bond secured first place in the 100 backstroke at 56.08 seconds; Tsuei was second (56.43) and Sadie Hartig third (57.35). Bond also led the field in the 200 individual medley at 2:04.20, followed by Hanani Dona (2:05.86) and Elizabeth Sistrunk (2:06.62).
Naomi Furman broke another Redhawk Center record by winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.16; Mandy Fleetwood finished second (1:04.29), and Maeve Linscott was third (1:04.32).
Returning from study abroad, Abigail Hardy placed first in the 200 butterfly at 2:03.55, ahead of Jena Nowoswiat (2:03.67) and Dona (2:06.66). In other events, Lily Bachl won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.94 seconds, while Mills captured victory in the 100 freestyle at 51.11 seconds.
Addy Forbes touched first in the 200 backstroke at 2:01.33; Hartig was runner-up at 2:02.18.
Senior Maeve Linscott earned nine points for Air Force by winning the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:16.92; Furman came second (2:17.15) and Fleetwood third (2:20.21).
To conclude the meet, Mills, Bachl, Hannah Seal, and Larson combined to win—and break another facility record—in the closing event, posting a time of 3;26.05 in the women’s 400 free relay.
Murphy commented further on her team’s performance stating, “We had so many great swims tonight, but breaking pool records is always special.”
The Falcons will next compete against BYU and Colorado Mesa on Friday January 23 in Provo, Utah.
