Air Force Academy’s women’s swim and dive team finished third out of 11 teams at the Phil Hansel Invitational in Houston, Texas, on Friday, November 21. The Falcons earned a total of 886 points during the three-day event and set two new school records.
Naomi Furman broke her own record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:12.74, finishing fourth. Teammate Maeve Linscott followed in seventh place with a time of 2:15.34.
On the diving platform, Chloe Perkins placed sixth with a score of 219.55, representing Air Force among the top ten finishers.
In the distance events, Katie Andrist completed the 1650 freestyle in 16:43.29 to claim sixth place, while Abby Miller finished tenth at 16:55.32, earning eighth place on Air Force’s all-time list for that event.
Kai-Min Tsuei took eighth place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:02.99 and contributed valuable points to the team’s total. Sadie Hartig recorded Air Force’s third-fastest ever time in this event at 1:58.93. Addy Forbes placed thirteenth overall and moved to seventh all-time for Air Force with her performance (1:59.68). Brynn Bond (2:00.21) and Elizabeth Sistrunk (2:00.20) also joined the program’s record book.
Freshman Natalie Doig secured twelfth place in the 200 butterfly while recording the fifth-fastest time in school history at 2:01.41.
Ryan Mills posted Air Force’s highest finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.07 seconds and achieved the second-best all-time mark for her leadoff leg in the 400 free relay (49.92). Lily Larson moved into third all-time for Air Force by finishing her race in 50.05 seconds.
Head coach Colleen Murphy said, “What a great three days of swimming for our team,” adding, “This was a total team effort; we had 12 different swimmers earn spots on our all-time top ten list, a multitude of best times, and two new school records.” She continued, “This was a testament to the team’s hard work and commitment this fall. We are not done and we will continue this momentum for the next three months heading into the Mountain West Championships.”
The Falcons’ next competition will be at the CSCAA Open Water National Championships in Sarasota, Florida on December 13.
