With four games remaining in the regular season, the Air Force women’s basketball team is preparing for a road matchup against New Mexico at The Pit in Albuquerque. The game is scheduled for Saturday, February 21 at 1 p.m. MT and will be available on the Mountain West Network and XtraSports AM 1300 with Ryan Kaufman providing commentary. Air Force enters the contest with a 12-14 overall record and a 6-10 mark in Mountain West play. New Mexico stands at 18-9 overall and 10-6 in conference action. Air Force is coming off a loss to Boise State, where they fell 70-62 after leading by as much as 12 points in the third quarter. Senior Milahnie Perry scored 20 points, marking her third straight game with at least 20 points and her tenth such performance this season. Senior Emily Adams contributed 16 points and nine rebounds, while junior Jayda McNabb added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Head coach Stacy McIntyre leads Air Force, while Mike Bradbury coaches New Mexico.
This season, Perry has averaged a league-leading 17.6 points per game and has scored an average of 22 points over her last six outings. She recently moved into third place on Air Force’s all-time scoring list with 1,683 career points and is within reach of both second place (Michelle Johnson, 1,706) and the program record (Melissa Standley, 1,738) with four games left to play.
Adams has seen increased productivity recently, averaging 14 points over her last nine games—the most productive stretch of her collegiate career. Her performance against Utah State included a double-double with career highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds.
McNabb continues to be a key presence for Air Force on the boards. She leads the Mountain West Conference in offensive rebounding (4.3 per game), ranks eighth nationally in that category, is third in total rebounds (7.8 per game), and second among league players in steals per game (2.27). With a current total of 626 career rebounds, she is approaching ninth place on Air Force’s all-time list.
The Falcons have been successful when winning the rebounding battle; seven of their last eight victories have come when out-rebounding opponents or tying them on the glass.
Statistically this season, Air Force leads the Mountain West in turnover margin (3.54), ranks second in turnovers forced per game (17.54), third in steals per game (9.0), and third in offensive rebounding (12.3 per game).
The team has found success under certain conditions: they are undefeated at home when holding opponents to fewer than 60 points or when shooting above fifty percent from the field.
Following their matchup with New Mexico, Air Force will return home to face Wyoming on February 25.
