Air Force women post top finishes on day two of MW swimming & diving championships

The Air Force women’s swimming and diving team completed the second day of competition at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Houston, Texas. The event took place Thursday evening at the CRWC Natatorium.

Freshman diver Lexi Gregory led the Falcons with a fifth-place finish on the 3-meter springboard, scoring 319.40 points. Teammates Lulu Semakula and Kacey Hu placed ninth and eleventh, respectively.

On the swimming side, sophomore Lily Larson secured sixth place in the 200 freestyle finals with a time of 1:47.72. In preliminaries, Larson posted a time of 1:47.27, marking her as having the second fastest swim in Academy history for that event. Sadie Hartig finished fifteenth in the finals after recording Air Force’s fourth fastest all-time mark during prelims at 1:48.33. Hannah Seal and Brynn Bond placed nineteenth and twentieth.

In preliminary heats of the 100 butterfly, Brynn Bond recorded Air Force’s best time of this meet at 55.33 seconds to finish twenty-ninth overall.

Elizabeth Sistrunk finished fifteenth in the 400 individual medley with a finals time of 4:24.80 after posting a faster time of 4:23.14 during prelims. Abby Miller placed nineteenth with a time of 4:24.03.

Head coach Colleen Murphy commented on her team’s performance by saying, “We had another amazing day in the pool,” adding, “Lily and Lexi did a great job making finals in their events. This is a very close meet between all the teams and our women are stepping up to the challenge.”

The championships continue Friday with preliminary rounds starting at 10:30 a.m., featuring events such as the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, and team diving.
