Air Force women’s basketball falls to New Mexico after close first half

Air Force Women’s Basketball lost to New Mexico 73-53 on Saturday afternoon in Albuquerque. The Falcons trailed by only two points at halftime but were outscored in the second half.

Senior Emily Adams and junior Jordyn Devaughn led Air Force with 10 points each. Juniors Alexis Cortez and Jayda McNabb contributed seven points apiece.

At the end of the first quarter, Air Force was behind 12-8. Although the team had difficulty scoring early, they limited New Mexico’s three-point attempts. The first quarter remained close until Nayli Padilla scored a layup for New Mexico, extending their lead.

In the second quarter, New Mexico increased its advantage to seven points before Air Force reduced the gap to one after consecutive three-pointers from Bhret Clay. However, a late 9-2 run by New Mexico put them ahead 31-25 before Devaughn hit a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer, making it 31-28.

New Mexico dominated the third quarter with an 18-6 run and led by as many as 20 early in the fourth. Air Force responded with an eight-point streak but could not overcome an ensuing 11-0 run by New Mexico. The Lobos maintained control for the remainder of the game.

Despite the loss, Air Force surpassed New Mexico in three-pointers made (seven), attempts (24), steals (six), and blocks (six).

Air Force now holds a record of 12-15 overall and 6-11 in Mountain West play, while New Mexico improves to 19-9 overall and 11-6 in conference games.

The Falcons will next play at home against Wyoming on February 25 during Field Trip Day at Clune Arena.
