Air Force volleyball falls to Grand Canyon in first Mountain West meeting

The Air Force women’s volleyball team was defeated by Grand Canyon University in their first Mountain West Conference matchup on Thursday night in Phoenix. The Falcons won the opening set 25-17 but then lost the next three sets, 18-25, 18-25, and 19-25, to the Lopes at Global Credit Union Arena.

Senior Ashley Bible led Air Force with a match-high 19 kills and a .273 hitting percentage. Sophomore Alysa Walker contributed 13 kills and recorded her ninth double-double of the season with a team-high 17 digs. Bible also posted her sixth double-double of the year with 10 digs. Together, Bible and Walker combined for three service aces.

Air Force finished the match with eight aces overall. Senior Jordan Suan had three aces, while freshman Sam Pope added two. Pope also led the team in assists with 20. On defense, sophomore Grace Fiaseu (three assisted blocks), senior Alex Hatchett (one solo block and two assisted), and sophomore Brooksie Isham (two solo blocks and one assisted) each recorded three blocks.

The Falcons’ record now stands at 11-12 overall and 3-8 in conference play. Grand Canyon improved to 14-8 overall and 6-5 in conference.

Air Force will conclude its four-match road trip on Saturday, November 1, when it faces New Mexico at Johnson Gym in Albuquerque at 1:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
