The Air Force track and field team will compete at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas, on January 30-31. This marks the team’s first appearance at this event after opening their season with three weeks of competition along the Front Range.
The invitational will be held at the Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track on the Kansas State campus. Admission is free for attendees during the two-day meet. The event features several nationally ranked Power 4 programs, including teams from Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and USC. According to the latest USTFCCCA Rating Index released on January 27, five of these teams have men’s or women’s squads ranked in the nation’s Top 30.
Air Force’s men’s team enters the meet ranked No. 27 nationally in the USTFCCCA Rating Index. This is their highest weekly ranking since they were No. 19 in the final week of the 2016 season and marks only their seventh appearance in the Top 30 since 2000.
Among individual athletes, Texas Tanner stands out for Air Force with national rankings in both weight throw and shot put events. He currently holds a distance of 24.18 meters in weight throw (No. 2 in NCAA) and a mark of 19.77 meters in shot put (No. 4).
The schedule includes various events for both men and women over Friday and Saturday, beginning with women’s pentathlon on Friday morning and concluding with relay races on Saturday evening.
Following this weekend’s competition, Air Force will travel to Boulder for the Colorado Classic scheduled for February 6-7.
