The Air Force Falcons men’s basketball team will play against the Nevada Wolf Pack in the opening round of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Basketball Championships on March 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, according to an announcement on Mar. 9.
This matchup is significant as Air Force seeks its first win at the Mountain West Championships since 2020. The Falcons enter the tournament as the twelfth seed with a season record of 3-28 overall and no wins in conference play, while Nevada holds a fifth seed with a record of 20-11 overall and 12-8 in conference games.
The two teams last met on March 7, when Nevada defeated Air Force by a score of 74-59. This will be their first meeting ever at the Mountain West Championships. The Falcons are led by interim head coach Jon Jordan, who is in his first season as interim head coach and ninth overall at Air Force. Steve Alford leads Nevada and has a career record of 719-386 over thirty-five seasons.
Notably, freshmen have played a major role for Air Force this season, contributing to more than half of the team’s scoring both overall and within conference games. Guard Kam Sanders leads all Air Force freshmen in scoring average during the Mountain West era with 12.5 points per game and holds school freshman records for total points (388) and assists (120). Forward Lucas Hobin follows closely with an average of 11.7 points per game and holds the freshman record for three-point shots made with seventy.
Air Force has struggled historically at this tournament, holding a cumulative record of six wins and twenty-six losses all-time at the Mountain West Championships. The team faces an opponent it ended its regular season against for only the third time since joining the conference.
