Air Force football head coach Troy Calhoun, along with senior offensive lineman Coston Cooley and senior defensive back Levi Brown, spoke to the media ahead of their upcoming game against New Mexico.
The teams have met 41 times, with Air Force holding a 26-15 lead in the series. In conference play, Air Force has a 21-13 advantage. The Falcons have performed strongly at home, winning 15 out of 18 games against New Mexico in Falcon Stadium. On the road in New Mexico, the record is even at 11-11. The teams have played once at a neutral site, where Air Force lost.
In their last meeting at Falcon Stadium in 2022, Air Force won decisively with a score of 35-3. Senior quarterback Haaziq Daniels contributed significantly by running for a 65-yard touchdown on the first drive and later adding another rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown to David Cormier. John Lee Eldridge III and Jensen Jones also scored rushing touchdowns. Brad Roberts led all rushers with 163 yards on 29 carries while Daniels added 113 yards on nine carries. The Falcons’ defense limited New Mexico to just eight first downs and recorded seven tackles for loss and five sacks.
Last season’s game saw New Mexico defeat Air Force, 52-37, in Albuquerque. Although Air Force took an early lead with a field goal by Matthew Dapore after forcing a three-and-out, New Mexico responded by scoring on seven straight possessions. Devon Dampier led the Lobos’ offense both on the ground and through the air, while Luke Wysong returned a punt for a touchdown—the first such return allowed by Air Force since 2017. Despite losing, Air Force achieved its highest offensive output of the season with 474 total yards; sophomore quarterback Quentin Hayes rushed for over 100 yards and threw for another 79 in his first career start.
Coach Calhoun addressed questions about preparing for this year’s matchup during his session with reporters.
