Air Force football head coach Troy Calhoun, senior tight end Bruin Fleischmann, and senior defensive lineman Daniel Grobe met with the media to discuss the upcoming game against Boise State.
The matchup will mark the 13th meeting between Air Force and Boise State as conference opponents. Boise State currently leads the series 8-4. Of those games, Air Force has a record of 2-3 at home and 2-5 when playing at Boise State. The Broncos have won six of the last seven matchups.
In their most recent encounter in 2023, Boise State secured a 27-19 victory over Air Force in Boise. That win clinched a tie for first place in the Mountain West for Boise State. During that game, Jonah Dalmas put Boise State ahead with a 38-yard field goal, followed by Taylen Green’s 12-yard touchdown run to make it 10-0 midway through the second quarter. Matthew Dapore scored Air Force’s first points with a season-long 50-yard field goal. Green later connected with Ashton Jeanty on a 75-yard touchdown pass, increasing the lead to 17-3 before Dapore added another field goal for Air Force before halftime.
Sophomore quarterback John Busha replaced injured starter Ben Brittain and scored his first career touchdown early in the third quarter to narrow the gap to 17-12. Jeanty responded for Boise State with a 50-yard rushing touchdown, but Dylan Carson brought Air Force back within five points late in the third quarter. Dalmas added another field goal for Boise State with just over four minutes remaining. Air Force’s final drive ended with an interception.
Air Force finished that game with 337 total yards, including 206 on the ground. Carson led all Falcons rushers with a personal-best of 132 yards and one touchdown on twelve carries while Busha completed eight of seventeen passes for 131 yards. For Boise State, Jeanty led both teams offensively with more than one hundred yards both rushing (107) and receiving (118).
The last time these teams played at Falcon Stadium was in 2022 when Boise State edged out Air Force by a score of 19-14. The Broncos opened up an early lead by holding Air Force to negative yardage in the first quarter and extended their advantage into halftime despite touchdowns from Haaziq Daniels and Brad Roberts narrowing the margin later in the game.
Boise State finished that contest with a total of 342 offensive yards behind quarterback Taylen Green’s passing performance while holding Air Force to only one hundred seventy-five rushing yards—a significant reduction from their usual output.
Coach Calhoun addressed reporters ahead of this year’s contest: “We know how competitive this series is and what it takes each week in our league.”
Fleischmann commented: “Every year we look forward to facing tough conference opponents like Boise State.”
Grobe added: “Our focus remains on preparation and executing our assignments come game day.”
