Air Force Academy’s men’s tennis team was defeated by Northern Arizona University (NAU) 6-1 in a match held Sunday at the USAFA Indoor Tennis Courts. The Falcons’ only point came from senior AJ Moore, who secured a singles victory against Takumi Katsuda with two tiebreaker sets, winning 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5).

In doubles play, Air Force lost both completed matches. The pair of AJ Moore and Langdon Tingleaf were beaten by NAU’s Takumi Katsuda and Vincent Vohl 6-4, while Jack Brown and Tyler Leaird fell to Noa Tcherniack and Daniels Tens 6-2. The third doubles match involving Phillip Deaton and Matthew Staton for Air Force was left unfinished.

During singles competition, Jack Brown was defeated in three sets at the top position by Noa Tcherniack, while Phillip Deaton also lost in three sets to Jakub Jedrzejczak at No. 2. Other losses for Air Force included Langdon Tingleaf, Matthew Staton, and Tyler Leaird.

Following the match, head coach Evan Urbina commented: “Obviously, the team is disappointed with the result from today, but the guys competed hard and we put ourselves in positions to win. AJ stayed resilient after losing a big lead in the first, and Jack and Phil forced third sets. We will keep working on finishing points, and be ready for the tough competition next weekend. We’re excited to attack practice this week and improve. Go Falcons!”

The Falcons are scheduled to play two home matches next weekend. They will host BYU on Saturday, February 28, followed by Denver on Sunday, March 1.
