Air Force men’s swimming and diving team is set to compete at the SMU Invitational in Dallas, Texas, from November 19 to November 22. The event will be held at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center. The Falcons will face off against teams from Drury, Hawaii, SMU, Stanford, and Notre Dame (diving).
The meet begins on Wednesday evening with the 200 Medley Relay and 800 Freestyle Relay. On Thursday and Friday, preliminary rounds start at 10 a.m., with finals at 5 p.m. Events include the 100 Butterfly, 400 IM, various freestyle and breaststroke races, springboard diving events, and relays. Saturday concludes with individual medleys, sprints, relays, and platform diving.
Several Air Force athletes are entering the invitational with strong performances in their conference. Louie Body holds the second-fastest time in the MPSF for the 200 backstroke at 1:46.28. Freshman Brandon Cho ranks high in multiple breaststroke events and the individual medley. Joe Christ is among the top five in both sprint freestyle events.
Other notable performances include Jonas Dark’s ranking in butterfly events and Danny Detjen’s third place in the conference for the 200 fly. Matthew Doty leads the MPSF in the 400 IM with a time of 3:49.99.
In diving, freshman Lucas Gerten has posted top scores across all boards in his conference and qualified for NCAA Zone competition.
The team’s last outing saw success on both swimming and diving fronts. Air Force men’s dive team defeated Army during a two-day dual meet at West Point by sweeping the top three spots on the three-meter board—Lucas Gerten finished first with a score of 352.05 while Brady Nichol took third place. Gerten also won gold on the one-meter board.
In swimming, Air Force triumphed over Grand Canyon University earlier this month at Cadet Natatorium by a score of 208-155. The Falcons secured nine individual wins during that meet; Matthew Doty contributed significantly by earning 19 points for his team.
