This meeting marks the only regular season matchup between Air Force and Utah State this year. Historically, Air Force trails in the series, having won seven out of thirty-six games played against Utah State. The last time these teams met was on March 8, 2025, when Utah State secured an 87-47 victory.
Both head coaches bring significant experience to their teams. Joe Scott leads Air Force in his tenth season at the school and holds an overall career coaching record of 281 wins and 357 losses over twenty-two seasons. Jerrod Calhoun is in his second season as head coach for Utah State and has accumulated a career record of 280 wins and 153 losses over fourteen seasons.
Air Force’s roster is notably less experienced than Utah State’s; its players have combined for a total of 267 games played compared to Utah State’s roster total of 855 games played. Nearly half (46.7 percent) of Air Force’s scoring comes from freshmen athletes this season.
Individually, Caleb Walker stands out by ranking second nationally with a shooting percentage of 72.2 percent and achieving sixteen consecutive made baskets across three games—the fourth-longest such streak nationwide. Freshman guard Kam Sanders recently set a new school record by making fifteen consecutive free throws in one game against South Dakota, surpassing the previous mark that had stood since 1958.
Additionally, Air Force has maintained consistency from beyond the arc by making at least one three-point shot in each of its last five hundred three games dating back to the year 2009.
Following Tuesday’s game against Utah State, Air Force will host New Mexico on Saturday, January 10 at Clune Arena with tipoff set for 1 p.m., streamed live on the Mountain West Network.
