Air Force is set to host Austin Peay in its men’s basketball home opener on Saturday, November 8 at Clune Arena on the United States Air Force Academy campus. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Mountain Time.
Non-Department of Defense ID card holders are required to obtain a visitor pass for base access to attend the event. There will be no video stream of the game due to the ongoing government shutdown. However, fans can listen to live radio coverage through the Varsity Network App with play-by-play from Ryan Kaufman and follow live statistics via Statbroadcast.
Entering their 70th season, Air Force is coming off a 4-28 overall record last year, including a 1-19 mark in Mountain West Conference play. Head coach Joe Scott returns for his sixth consecutive season at Air Force and tenth overall with the program. The Falcons bring back eight players and have added nine freshmen for the new campaign. In their season opener against Belmont, Air Force received 32 points from its freshmen.
Austin Peay finished last season with a 14-19 record (8-10 in ASUN Conference) under head coach Corey Gipson, who is now in his fourth year with the Governors. Both teams have yet to face each other under their current head coaches.
The series between Air Force and Austin Peay is tied at one win each. Their first meeting was in December 1995 when Austin Peay won 91-72 in Toledo, Ohio; Air Force won the most recent contest in March 2007 at home by a score of 75-51.
A notable achievement for Air Force includes former player Ethan Taylor being selected ninth overall in the recent NBA G-League Draft by Greensboro Swarm before being traded to Santa Cruz Warriors, which serves as an affiliate of the Golden State Warriors.
Following Saturday’s matchup, Air Force will host Long Island University on Tuesday, November 11, with an early tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m. Mountain Time.
