The Air Force men’s gymnastics team finished sixth on March 20 during the opening day of competition at the USAG Collegiate Nationals, held inside Cadet West Gym.
The event featured strong performances from senior Tai Gopaul and freshman Isaac Koo, who both secured multiple top-10 finishes. Gopaul placed third on the high bar with a score of 13.100, tied for fifth on floor exercise (13.130), and achieved seventh place on still rings with a career-best 13.150. Koo recorded career-best scores as well, tying for eighth on vault (13.750) and placing sixth on parallel bars (13.200). He also tied for seventh in the floor exercise with a score of 13.250.
Other notable results included seniors Jack Matlock and Sam Brown finishing second (season-best 13.950) and sixth (13.450) respectively on pommel horse. Sophomores Jack Thomas Foltyn and Ryan Jacobsen contributed to three top-10 finishes on still rings; Foltyn tied with Gopaul for seventh (13.150), while Jacobsen scored a career-high 13.100 to finish tenth among thirty competitors.
Army West Point won its first-ever team title at the USAG Collegiate Nationals by scoring 313.050 points, ahead of Greenville University (311.850) and Navy (310.750). Springfield College followed closely behind Navy with a score of 310.350, while William and Mary rounded out the top five at 308.550 points. The Falcons’ total was 306.750, placing them sixth overall, while Simpson College finished seventh with a score of 302.400.
Navy’s Jonah Soltz claimed the all-around title with a total score of 78.550 during today’s events.
Top finishers from today’s qualifiers will return to Cadet West Gym tomorrow, March 21, for the individual finals of the USAG Collegiate Nationals, which are scheduled to begin at noon Mountain Time and will be streamed live.
