Air Force will conclude its regular season in men’s basketball with a game against Nevada on Saturday, March 7, at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno. The matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on NSN/MW Network, with radio coverage available through KVOR AM 740 and live statistics provided by Statbroadcast.
The Falcons enter the contest with a record of 3-27 overall and are winless in Mountain West play at 0-19. They are currently on a 23-game losing streak, having most recently lost to Grand Canyon by a score of 86-60. Nevada holds a record of 19-11 overall and is 11-8 in conference games but has dropped its last two contests, including an 83-73 loss at Wyoming.
Interim head coach Jon Jordan leads Air Force this season. Jordan, an alumnus of the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), is serving his first year as interim head coach and has yet to secure a win in that role. Nevada is coached by Steve Alford, who is in his seventh season with the Wolf Pack and holds an overall school record of 131-87.
The series history between the teams favors Nevada significantly; Air Force trails all-time by three wins to twenty-one losses. The Falcons have struggled both at home and away against the Wolf Pack, including their most recent meeting on January 17, when Nevada won 81-66.
Freshmen have played a major role for Air Force this season, accounting for over half of the team’s scoring—57 percent overall and rising to 64 percent during conference games. Guards Kam Sanders (12.3 points per game) and Lucas Hobin (12.1 points per game) rank first and second respectively among freshmen scorers for Air Force during the Mountain West era. Sanders also holds program freshman records for total points scored (374) and assists (117), while Hobin set a new mark for three-point field goals made by a freshman with sixty-nine.
Experience remains limited on the current Falcons roster compared to their opponent; Air Force players have combined for just four hundred fifty-four career games played versus eight hundred eight combined games for Nevada’s roster.
Following Saturday’s game, Air Force will begin play in the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament from March 11–14 at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The Falcons are scheduled to participate as one of the lower seeds on March 11 at 2:30 p.m., with their opponent yet to be determined.
