Air Force men’s basketball lost to Nevada, 80-45, in the opening round of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Basketball Championships on March 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Freshman guard Kam Sanders led Air Force with 12 points.
The game started with Nevada taking a quick lead, scoring the first 13 points. A later 16-0 run by Nevada put the game out of reach before halftime, with the Wolf Pack leading 39-10 at the break.
Corey Camper Jr. was Nevada’s top scorer with 11 points, while Chuck Bailey added 10 points for the Wolf Pack. Air Force improved its offense in the second half, scoring 35 points after only managing ten in the first half. The Falcons shot 29 percent from the field and nine percent from three-point range but made all eleven of their free throws and recorded nine steals.
Sanders ended his freshman season setting Academy records for most points (400) and assists (121) by a freshman. Junior forward Kolby Gilles also scored in double figures with ten points, marking his second straight game reaching that mark. Gilles went six-for-six from the free throw line and had a career-high three steals.
Sophomore forward Eli Robinson led Air Force with five rebounds and one blocked shot, while sophomore guard AJ Patterson contributed a game-high four assists. The Falcons finished their season with a record of three wins and twenty-nine losses.
