Two gymnasts from the Air Force Academy have received recognition from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). Sophomore Jared Fry was named MPSF Gymnast of the Week, while senior Sam Brown was selected as MPSF Specialist of the Week. This is the first time either athlete has received a conference honor.
At the All-Academy Championships held in Fort Worth on February 13, Fry achieved a career-high and meet record score of 78.700 to win the all-around competition. He improved his previous best by nearly three points and now holds the eighth-best all-around score in the NCAA this season. Fry also led Air Force on vault with a third-place score of 13.700, finished second on still rings with 12.900, and took third place on both parallel bars (13.250) and high bar (13.200). He recorded season-high scores in five out of six events.
Senior co-captain Sam Brown also set a career-high and meet record to secure first place on pommel horse at the same championship event. Brown’s personal-best score of 14.300 was one of four individual event titles for Air Force during their triangular meet against Army and Navy. His performance marked an improvement of 0.300 over his previous best, giving him the sixth-highest pommel horse score in the NCAA this season and ranking eighth all-time in Air Force history.
The Falcons will compete again next Saturday, February 28, when they host the Rocky Mountain Mavericks at Cadet West Gym for senior day. The event is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m., with free admission for attendees.
