The Air Force golf team will travel to La Jolla, California, for the sixth annual UC San Diego Invitational at Torrey Pines North Course from March 22 to 24. The event will feature live scoring available on Scoreboard by Clippd.
The tournament is significant as it brings together a competitive field and offers the Falcons an opportunity to build on recent performances. Air Force will face teams including host UC San Diego, Loyola Marymount, Cal Baptist, Creighton, Drexel, UC Santa Barbara, Weber State, DePaul, Eastern Washington, CSU Northridge, UC Irvine, Southern Utah, Bucknell, Holy Cross, Prairie View A&M and Oklahoma Christian.
The lineup for Air Force includes Eli Huntington in the first position followed by Ted Davenport, Ben Zeiler, Eric Liveringhouse and Carson Baker. Grant Samuelson and Brooks Morrell will compete as individuals. The format consists of 18 holes each day with a shotgun start; teams play five golfers with the top four scores counting toward the team total daily.
Torrey Pines Golf Course was designed by William P. Bell and completed by his son William F. Bell in 1957. It features two championship courses overlooking the Pacific Ocean and has hosted major tournaments such as the U.S. Open in 2008 and 2021.
Last year at this invitational held on Torrey Pines South Course, Carson Baker led Air Force tying for 24th among 111 golfers with a score of 226 (+10). The Falcons finished fifteenth overall after shooting their best round of the tournament in the final round with a score of 300.
Looking ahead to this season’s event at Torrey Pines North Course, four Falcons have played all twenty-one team rounds so far: Huntington leads with a season stroke average of 75.05 while Morrell follows at 75.63. Freshman Zeiler has played twelve rounds averaging 75.08 per round and shot a team-low round of sixty-seven at Bandon Dunes earlier this season.
After this tournament concludes on March 24th, Air Force is scheduled to compete next at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational April 4-5 in Augusta.
