The Air Force golf team will participate in the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational on April 20 and 21 at Bluetop Ridge Golf Course in Riverside, Iowa, according to an April 16 announcement. Live scoring for the event will be available on Scoreboard by Clippd.
The invitational is significant as it marks the 32nd edition of Iowa’s longest-running home tournament. The field consists of fourteen teams, including host school Iowa, DePaul, Drake, Missouri-Kansas City, Missouri State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Omaha, SIU-Carbondale, South Dakota State, South Dakota, Valparaiso and Western Illinois.
Representing Air Force will be Eli Huntington (1), Ben Zeiler (2), Carson Baker (3), Brooks Morrell (4), and Ted Davenport (5). The format includes two rounds totaling 36 holes on the first day with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Central Time each day; teams play five golfers with the top four scores counting toward the team score daily.
This year’s tournament continues a tradition where Iowa has captured seventeen team titles and produced sixteen individual champions over its history. In recent years since 2019—excluding a cancellation in 2020—Iowa has won three out of six possible team titles. Notably in 2019 Matthew Walker and Alex Schaake set program and tournament records with matching scores of -14 over fifty-four holes.
Among Falcons players this season freshman Ben Zeiler leads with a stroke average of 74.28 across eighteen rounds played—including all twelve this spring—while junior Eli Huntington follows closely with an average of 74.74. Four Falcons have competed in all twenty-seven rounds this season; Huntington recorded the lowest round for Air Force so far—a score of sixty-seven at Bandon Dunes.
In their previous outing at Augusta Haskins Award Invitational earlier this month Huntington and Zeiler were top performers for Air Force each posting scores of +7 over three rounds as North Carolina took first place among several nationally ranked teams.
